NEWS
Jelle Paulusma, born November 26, 1965, in Sittard, is a notable Dutch songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. He rose to fame in the 1990s as the singer and guitarist of the band Daryll-Ann, active from 1988 to 2004, releasing seven albums. The band played notable festivals such as Pinkpop and Lowlands and toured extensively in Europe, performing alongside bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and The Verve. Despite positive critical reception, the band's commercial success was limited, leading to their breakup in 2004. After the band's breakup, Paulusma launched a solo career. Jelle Paulusma has had a prolific solo career since the disbandment of Daryll-Ann, releasing several albums that showcase his talent as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Here is an overview of his solo albums: "Here We Are" (2006) Paulusma's debut solo album, Here We Are, was released in 2006. The album marked a departure from the sound of Daryll-Ann, offering a more introspective and folk-influenced approach. It was well-received for its rich melodies and heartfelt lyrics. "iRECORD" (2008) iRECORD continued Paulusma's exploration of melodic indie rock, with a mix of acoustic and electric instrumentation. The album features intricate arrangements and showcases his skill in creating atmospheric soundscapes. "Up On The Roof" (2011) Released in 2011, Up On The Roof is known for its lush production and sophisticated songwriting. Paulusma incorporated a variety of musical styles, from folk to rock, creating a diverse and engaging album. "Pulling Weeds" (2014) Pulling Weeds was critically acclaimed, with Het Parool naming it the 'Dutch rock album of the year.' The album blends introspective lyrics with rich, layered arrangements, highlighting Paulusma's growth as a solo artist. "Somehow Anyhow" (2019) In Somehow Anyhow, Paulusma delivers a collection of songs that blend his signature melodic style with influences from Americana and classic rock. The album features contributions from various musicians, adding depth and variety to the sound. In 2014, Daryll-Ann reunited for a series of concerts, including performances at festivals like Best Kept Secret, reflecting the lasting impact and loyal fanbase they had cultivated over the years. In 2024, Daryll-Ann announced a comeback, planning a new tour and album, called 'Spring' under Excelsior Recordings. Their first new single in two decades, "A Note About Time," was released on May 31, 2024. Beyond his solo work, Paulusma has contributed music to international commercials and documentaries, including the European Stop Smoking campaign and films by Selfmade Films. He has explored various musical genres, collaborating with artists like Iain Matthews and performing with the Metropole Orkest. He has also been active in education and mentorship, teaching at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and offering songwriting workshops. Since 2016, Paulusma has been performing with the tribute band Her Majesty, focusing on the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. His ability to emulate Neil Young's voice is a notable aspect of his performances with the band. Her Majesty's 2024 theatre tour, titled "San Francisco City Trip," is a musical journey back to the vibrant music scene of San Francisco in the 1960s and 1970s. The tour features a mix of live performances and multimedia projections, highlighting iconic bands and artists like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steve Miller, and David Crosby. This nostalgic homage captures the essence of the era when San Francisco was a hub for musical innovation and the counterculture movement.
